Hi everyone -
First of all, thanks for reading! I will do my best to make this blog entertaining, descriptive and somewhat pithy. From my experience journaling, I will readily admit that the regularity of my postings may vary.
As general geographic background on Budapest, the Danube runs through the middle of town, splitting the city into two parts - Buda on the west, and Pest on the east. Buda is the older section of town and is incredibly hilly. Pest is more modern and is where my office and apartment are located. After failing to come up with an exceptionally excellent blog title, this struck me as as good a one as any - the Romans crossed the Danube, Napoleon had a difficult time doing so and as of 8/7, I am living right next to it.
I will also come clean that I plan to take advantage of this open forum to list very random, non-Hungary related items. For instance: In order for a male sport to be added to the Olympics, it has to be practiced in >75 countries on at least 4 continents. By my calculations, a lot more people are curling and luging than I would have expected.
On that note, thanks for reading. I'm hoping this will be a quick and easy way to keep you all updated this year. And by no means should this take the place of emails, phone calls, skypes (?) or holiday visits!
Jenny :)
